- Location: in the vision, the throne room of heaven (4:1-2); John himself was on Patmos (1:9)

Theological reading
"And every created thing which is in the heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and on the sea, and all things that are in them, heard I saying, Unto him that sitteth on the throne, and unto the Lamb, be the blessing, and the honor, and the glory, and the dominion, for ever and ever." This is the climax of the vision that began in chapter 4.
Two scenes of worship. Chapter 4 ends with worship of the Creator: "Worthy art thou, our Lord and our God, to receive the glory and the honor and the power: for thou didst create all things" (4:11). Chapter 5 brings in the Lamb who "hath been slain" (5:12), and the praise widens until it reaches every creature. In this verse the two are named together and receive one list: blessing (Strong's G2129), honor (G5092), glory (G1391) and dominion (G2904), "for ever and ever."
Who is doing the praising. The verse says "every created thing" (G2938). The Lamb is not one of the voices. He is on the receiving side with the one on the throne, while everything that was made is on the giving side. The response follows: the living creatures say "Amen," and the elders "fell down and worshipped" (5:14). In the ASV the verb has no object; the KJV's "him that liveth for ever and ever" follows a later form of the text. Either way, the worship answers a doxology addressed to both.
The Witness reading and the reply. Witnesses hold that the Lamb is honoured as the one through whom Jehovah saves, and that this honour is not the worship due to Jehovah alone. The Christian reply, as set out in Jehovah's Witnesses vs the Christian God, is that the text gives no second, lesser category here. Isaiah has Jehovah say, "my glory will I not give to another" (Isaiah 42:8), and here glory is given to the Lamb in the same sentence and the same words as to the one on the throne. Why these four translations
ris3n chose ASV, WEB, KJV, and YLT for two reasons together. They are the most literal English translations available (formal-equivalence: word-for-word renderings that preserve the Hebrew and Greek grammar rather than smoothing it into modern dynamic-equivalence idiom). And they are in the public domain in the United States, which means fair-use quotation at any length requires no publisher license. Modern licensed translations (NASB95, ESV, NIV) restrict volume of quotation under their copyright terms, so they are not used at stub-level coverage here. NASB95 appears only on hand-curated rich passage hubs under Lockman Foundation's fair-use allowance.
The four:
- ASV (American Standard Version, 1901). The basis of the modern critical-text English tradition.
- WEB (World English Bible, contemporary). Public-domain revision in the ASV line, in current English.
- KJV (King James Version, 1611). Reformation-era, Textus Receptus base.
- YLT (Young's Literal Translation, Robert Young, 1862). Hyper-literal preservation of Hebrew and Greek grammar; useful for word-study work even where English reads stiff.
